The Validated-Need

You don't need agreement on opinions — you need agreement on REALITY. "Yes, that happened. Yes, that was hard. Yes, you're seeing it accurately."

What this type means

The Validated-Need pattern is the reality-confirmation profile. Often present in people who experienced gaslighting, denial of their experience, or chronic family-of-origin dynamics where the reality the child saw was disputed by the adults. The need is not for agreement — it is for reality-anchoring. Roughly 8–12% of the adult population; significantly higher in populations with documented gaslighting histories.

In relationships

You probably ask "am I crazy?" more than the average person — not literally, but checking. This usually traces back to a relationship where reality WAS being denied to you.

Watch for

The need for validation can curdle into seeking only people who agree. Truth-tellers in your life are precious; don't let comfort-givers crowd them out.

The growth edge

Distinguish "do you see it the same way I do?" from "is what I'm saying happening?" The first is preference; the second is sanity-anchoring. Get the second from people you trust; the first will sort itself.
